Melissa Black

Melissa Black

Originally from Orlando, Florida, Melissa came to Atlanta in 1982 to attend Emory University and has lived here ever since. She was raised in a Jewish home and is currently a member of reform synagogue Congregation Dor Tamid in Johns Creek.

Melissa has been working with Electronic Data Systems (EDS) as a systems engineer for 22 years and currently supports the Medicare Claims contract as a very experienced Cobol and assembler programmer. When not singing or working, she spends time with her 2 wonderful teenagers, plays tennis on her neighborhood womenís doubles team, participates in book clubs, and enjoys a night out dancing or watching movies.

Performing has always been a large part of Melissaís life. From the age of 11 when she played the lead role of Maria in her local Jewish Community Centerís camp production of West Side Story, she has continued to perform in musicals and choirs. While at Emory, she performed with the University Chorus and Concert Choir and currently sings with the choir of Congregation Dor Tamid.

Shir Harmony gives Melissa the opportunity to expand her knowledge of Jewish music as well as to continue with her love of singing, perform at a wide variety of venues, and socialize with a wonderful group of women.
